Lighting DP
I started shooting single camera style projects early on in my career as a sports cameraman just as the terms ENG and EFP were starting to be commonly used. Before that, lighting was just a way to be able to see the subject. In those days, if you were a hand-held cameraman you were often assigned to shoot the interviews and stand-ups for the opens and closes, half-time features and player line-ups. Working with a couple of the other crew people, you were expected to know audio, video tape and lighting as well as camera.
As those productions became more sophisticated, so did the lighting packages – we were starting to look at these shoots as small vignettes. When BetaCam first came out, my friend bought the first one in Seattle and I was the cameraman who went with it. At that point, lighting became very interesting to me and I began to get calls for a wide variety of lighting DP projects.
Those skills took me around the world for projects. Here are a few of the places I’ve shot; Switzerland, Tahiti, Canada, Germany, England, Bulgaria, Jordan, France, Costa Rica, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and many more.
Here a few of the clients I’ve shot for:
- Billy Graham Evangelical Association
- Microsoft
- Weyerhaeuser
- NBC Sports
- MTV
What does all this mean? Nothing in the grand sceme of life, but if you’re looking for a producer/director that’s been around, has experiance and can handle extreme pressure under the toughest television conditions, then we should talk.
